According to the California Health and Safety Statute, "lead free" is defined as no more than 0.2% in flux, and no more than 0.25% in pipes and plumbing fittings, bathroom fittings and sanitary ware.  There are some states have adopted this cetification.  However, California law does not include house-to-house pipe saddle, non-potable water counter flow preventers for irrigation or industrial purposes, or main gate valves for water delivery systems that 2 inches or larger in diameter.

CSA low lead certification is for sanitary products that provide drinking water in sanitary plumbing systems, including but not limited to: pipes, plumbing or sanitary fittings, sanitary ware, flux,.  A product submitted by the customer is considered to meet the requirements if the lead content of all parts in contact with water is less than or equal to 0.25%.  If the product submitted by the customer contains more than 0.25% lead in parts in contact with water.  In this case, it is necessary to calculate the average weight lead content of the product.
